Make no mistakes about it. Linkdotnet and PTCL are like the giants of DSL in Pakistan. While, there are other broadband alternatives like WorldCall, Maxcom, Multinet, Wateen and many more, the focus of this poll will remain on these two.
Personally, here at PakCrunch, our experience with PTCL has been abysmal. They have the worst customer service ever, and to get an upgrade or something fixed is very difficult unless you have a relative in PTCL. The only ‘plus’ point of PTCL is that they can also deliver DSL over their fiber optic lines, which is actually a way to create their monopoly on DSL. And the fact that they provide (pirated) movies for downloads is a plus for many as well, although they have the worst sound and video quality.
Linkdotnet, on the other hand has excellent customer service if somewhat clueless about what ‘ping’ means. I’ve always had a customer service guy at my doorstep in less than 48 hours as they tell me. They do their best to diagnose the issues. Heck, I can even upgrade or downgrade my connection over the phone or get a static or dynamic IP. Try that with PTCL!
I wont go into speed details here, as everyone has a different experience for that as well as DSL speed varies over a huge amount of factors. I just got my newly redesigned PTCL bill ( now renamed as ‘services invoice’ in the header ) today and it struck me in more ways than one. For once, the bill actually feels pleasant to look at. Some columns have been rearranged here and there, and overall has a much cleaner look than before.

Imran , I had LDN , never got upgraded to 2 mb as according to them my line only supports 1.3 mb max , when I sent them the notice suddenly the same line can support upto 3mb for only Rs 2,700. by that time I had PTCL working on my line and it’s a disaster , still getting 1.5 mb , XMlRPc.PHP giving problem on windows live writer , 15 min wait for Customer Service and the generic answer it will be fixed in 24 hr , well in the next 24 hr and 4 days of PTCL I may get it disconnected and go back to LDN

Ok so I use PTCL. It has become horribly annoying over the past month, bad speed, bad customer service, bad everything. But it was good once. We called and they came the very same day – everytime. We got our upgrade without a problem, our speed was ok. But I live really really REALLY near to the exchange=P

I strongly agree that the real notable difference between LDN and PTCL (at least in Karachi) is the customer service. LDN management is focused on reducing support calls as much as possible. And by reducing I meant solving the problem in one go, so you don’t need to call them again and again. They are quick and most of the times do tell you the right thing (i.e. without hiding it behind, silly marketing statements).
For PTCL I would say you are gr8 until you get an issue with your connection, and if/when you get one, only God can help you. Some wonderful TMs (topi makers) they have employed for customer support, with absolutely NO accountability whatsoever.

I have to say LINKdotNET wins my vote.
As a student returning from states, I had high hopes but low expectations from the ISPs in the country. I was told about PTCL and I went from it, but after waiting for twenty days for the ‘line’ to be tested and the actual connection to be installed, it was all downhill from there. I was suffering from modem sync and browsing issues, disconnection, data caps and extra charges, low download and upload speeds and worst of all…the Customer Service was horrendous and the so called support staff extremely discurteous.
I finally opted for LDN, and the first pleasant surprise was being able to avail a student discount that significantly cut te cost of the 1 MB connection I opted for. It took eight days for the connection to be installed but the staff kept in touch with me. Later, the connection was easily upgraded to 2 MB and I thought it was a glitch, only to be informed that the service was upgraded for all! The customer support staff is gracious and open about whatever problems the connection is having and don’t give you false hope for miracles. As with any technology, there are glitches, but the thing I like about LDN is that they really get on it whenever a customer is dissatisfied and solve the prblem.
Recently they started ‘Refer to a Friend’ scheme which is simple as opposed to PTCL’s offer…I have already recommended the connection to my friends and I will continue to do so…now I will get discount for it!! Way to go!

Assalam Alaikum, meray ko to 1 sal hogaya hai ptcl ki service theik kub chalti hai aaj batata hon 1 jub aap ka bill ata hai or or jub tak aap ka bill jama hota hai yani k mahinay mein 8-10din yeh theik chalta hai us k bad yeh 1 number ki ghatya service deta hai, menay kal hi in ka modem apnay ghar say in k dsl installer ko bula kar sarak par phenk dia hai or in ki telephone line bhi or kaha hai k ab mein tumhara baap bhi aajai to bhi bill nahi bharo ga, ap meray ghusay say anadaza laga saktay ho k yeh kitni behtarin ghatiya kisim ki service hai, menay link dot net use kia hai woh kumzkum disconnect nahi hoti 12-13 ghantay conitue. or ptcl ki meri telephone line bhi 100% theik thi or menay 4 DSL modem lagaye thay 3000 walay 4 modem 1 ptcl say china wala ZTE ka khairda, 1 bazar say 2900 ka DLInk ka or 1 Zeyxl ka 1800 mein sub brand new thay or 1 modem ptcl walo ka free wala shiro lekin modem filter sub change karnay k bad bhi koi improvement nahi ai. PTCL or PTCL k in haramkhor Mulazmimo k Moo par Lanat. Menay apni Telephone ki line lagwanay k lye jo k leagal tariqa tha us k through in k Mulazim ko 500 rupe haramkhori ki rishwat deni pari jo menay kal in ka modem sarak par 2 manzil say phenk kar waasol karli hai. Ap say bhi yehi mashwara hai k aap bhi in k moo par nahi to kamz kum sarak par in ka modem zaror phenkein. Hi, Here I would like to share my experience about link dot net. Currently I’m using link dot net from the last 1 week and I get fedup on the 2nd day after internet activation they are 100% liar their shared internet is not good as compare to PTCL dsl.
Some common problems what I faced:
1. you will never get more than 32kb on 1MB connection, said by their team member.
2. You will not be able to browse internet even you will need 20mins to see your inbox on link dot net 1mb connection
3. when you will call them for the support they will say this is not our fault this is PTCL’s fault (some backend issues) or they will say your line is not clear
4. when you want to get rid of them they will call you again and again and will request you to give them at least 48 hours to fix their internet issues, if you agreed then you will waste your time as I’ve done.
I hope you willd learn from my experience, at this stage now I’m going to buy wateen and placing order on PTCL as well, my investment for wateen is 100% loss this is just to fill the 1 week gap (disconnecting from link dot net and activation on ptcl). :(

I’ve used both LinkDOTnet and PTCL and I was definitely better off with LDN. PTCL has customer support issues and somehow, my internet does not work when I have to use the phone. So that’s two issues. And they are rather significant.
Let’s also not forget PTCL’s slow upload speed. It takes eons to upload photos on Facebook! :(

I have newly moved in this area and shocked to know that there is no better internet provider. In my previous home I was fan to Connect.net. Here for internet I specially got new landline and submitted request to PTCL DSL. Now it has been 2 months no one even visited to see and when I inquired on phone they said that the DSL point is not available yet as soon as we get we will give you the connection. They also informed that they have more than 800 applications in queue. The lineman is asking for bribe to avail 4 to 5 hundred of rupee. Although the land line is new it is still not working and my phone is dumb these days….. God know when our people will understand the value of services they offer to public. They are losing their business and the reliance of public over them. Now I have decided to move for the better option as in starting I have faced a lot what will I get in future if I continue………….!!!

I am regular blogger and a computer science student, and i really need internet badly..
I’ve had 2 mb ptcl connection which worked fine for the first 3 or 4 months.. but then PtCL upgraded the connections and doubled all of them.
And suddenly everything is hitting rock bottom. Get’s disconnected every minute, low download speeds and worst customer services…
PTCL literally stinks these days, and I am looking for some other broadband service provider….
